We would like to provide a brief description of our practice and our professional background. We are partners in a tax practice specializing in US. taxation of individuals. Our focus population are US citizens and green-card holders who live outside the USA and who may have complexities due to cross-border international taxation rules.
We opened our private practice in January 1996, and currently serve approximately 350 individual clients, as well as a few small corporations. The profile of our clients is varied and interesting, including doctors, lawyers, artists, musicians, professionals of all walks, as well as retirees. While most of our clients live in France, we also have clients based in the US and throughout Europe.
Both partners gained extensive professional development with prestigious ‘Big Firms’ boot camps”. Karen Carmichael began her tax career with KPMG Peat Marwick’s Paris office in 1984, where she held the position of Senior Manager until she left 12 years later to open this office. Greg Smith originally began his career as a field agent for the I.R.S. in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1986 he joined Ernst & Young’s Brussels’ tax practice and in 1988 he was recruited for KPMG’s Paris tax office.
We also assist companies in developing their policies and procedures to manage the tax reimbursement policies (Tax Equalization Policies) that cover their international assignee programs.
